Data Glossary
To ensure the ROSA community utilizes consistent terminology and remains familiar with core data concepts, this glossary provides definitions for terms such as data governance, data management, data standards, and more.
Data Management & Sharing Plan (DMSP)
A DMSP is a formal document that outlines how research data will be handled, stored, shared, and preserved throughout the lifecycle of a project. Creating a DMSP for any research and monitoring efforts ensures transparency for how data was collected, how it will be formatted, and how it will be shared. ROSA and RWSC have created a template with the ability to capture this information for all offshore wildlife and fisheries data types.
ROSA Data Policy
The ROSA Data Policy can help inform other policies, contracts, and agreements so that offshore wind fisheries research and monitoring can advance knowledge, be used in decision-making, and have wide utility to researchers, government agencies, and others. We encourage research and monitoring contracts to consider adopting this language to standardize data availability of wildlife and fisheries offshore wind research and monitoring.
Repository Criteria
When choosing a repository for fisheries data, ROSA recommends this chosen repository meet certain criteria to allow for non-proprietary formats for data and metadata, programmatic and manual data access, standardized metadata and provenance, and the use of persistent identifiers.
Report & Recommendations on Fisheries Resource Data Production, Storage and Accessibility
Released in 2022, this report highlights the results from a ROSA-commissioned study on the then-status of data standardization and sharing related to potential impacts of offshore wind on fisheries.
